The netizens were delighted with the advocacy of SM Supermalls; SM Hypermarket Molino specifically, for giving autistic people a chance to work at SM. They called the project, “AutiSM at Work” and this is in partnership with Autism Society Philippines. On the post of SM Markets on Facebook last October 31, 2019, they have shown the participants in their advocacy. They are Mico Ramos, Jed Dizon, and Brainard Tabije. On the said post, they are encouraging their customers to say hello to the participants of their AutiSM at Work. They are happy to serve at SM Hypermarket, Molino.
The said program is a part of the advocacy of SM Markets to give the same opportunities to PWAs (Persons with Autism) and raise a culture of workplace which includes a partnership with the Autism Society Philippines. They also added that for every store, there will be three PWA participants and they will be given several duties in the selling area in the supermarket.
The PWAs will be asked to organize carts & baskets, assist customers, and return stray items. There will also be an in-store campaign that will help educate the customers on how to respectfully deal with the workers who have autism.
The “AutiSM at Work” project started at Savemore Market Light Residences in 2016 followed by Savemore Market Mezza and SM Supermarket Aura. After seeing the success of the project, other provincial branches like Davao, Iloilo, and Cebu followed them too. By the way, Savemore is a subsidiary of SM Supermalls.
The netizens admired this project of SM and they thanked the company for creating jobs for the PWAs. They believe that the differently-abled people also deserve a chance to be productive and grow as an individual aside from having a chance to earn money.
